The Thought Collection, 2022

The Thought Collection, a series of six 12”x16” original oil paintings on canvas, came out of my desire to gain internal peace, calm, and quietness of the mind. The initial brushstrokes of Contemplation, the first painting in what would become a series, came out of a desperation to expend the anxious energy from leaving my job to pursue art full time. While the smooth waves did not reflect the turmoil and stress within my mind, I hoped that by projecting these rhythmic patterns of ocean waves, I could fall into more restorative and tranquil thought patterns.

Contemplation, Deliberation, and Rumination were the first pieces born in the series as the same, unproductive thoughts circled my mind. Introspection became the midpoint of the series as my thinking became deeper and more reflective. The final pieces, Meditation and Reverie, represent a sense of calm and mental clarity that came back into my life as I had processed my thoughts and emotions through painting.

As staring out into the sea, the pieces from The Thought Collection provide space and time to bring awareness to your thoughts. The harmonious and serene movements of the waves massage the mind and evoke mindful thinking to provide mental clarity and peacefulness.
